deviantART and Tracing - A Ramble - Part QAbout a month ago I wrote this editorial about tracing on deviantART and the staff's new definition of what is "valid fan art". Well, since then I've found some older news articles and new additions to the FAQ and all sorts of interesting new things to add. So, I'd like to ramble some more!
I suppose I'll start off by mentioning the recent addition (or maybe I've just been overlooking it for a long time) of a fan art "vector" category. Now, anyone who knows anything about vector art is going to stop me here and say, "Hey dumbhead, vector art is a perfectly valid form of art!"

People have already been over the problem with deviantART's inconsistent policies on what is and isn't considered porn.
Let's talk about another big issue that's been hitting the anime/manga community (and it's not just us- that's just where it's the most noticable, in my opinion) in the face lately:
Tracing. Or "vectoring," in some cases. You take a screenshot from an anime, or some other kind of work that isn't yours, you trace over it somehow and then you post it and call it your own.
